$517,000 charitable remainder trust to fund education scholarship
Graduate students in the College of Education will benefit from a charitable remainder trust established by Martha Mead Horn, the wife of a late emeritus faculty member, Dr. Jeff Horn. When the gift of some $517,000 comes to TCU, it will augment the scholarship created in 1984 by friends and students of Dr. Horn.
College of Education faculty member Dale Young ’66 ’68, who took classes from Dr. Horn, remembers the couple fondly. “Dr. Horn was very good at meeting individual students’ needs. He also founded the campus chapter of Kappa Delta Pi International Honor Society. Though an Aggie, Dr. Horn was a wonderful supporter of TCU, as was Mrs. Horn.”
TCU graduates who hold teacher certification and have taught in public schools for three or more years are eligible for the Dr. and Mrs. Jeff Horn Scholarship. The charitable remainder trust was established on Mrs. Horn’s death in 2005 and will provide two beneficiaries chosen by Mrs. Horn an income for life. When the last beneficiary dies, the gift will come to TCU.
